Studio 24: Martha Peskin
For me, painting is an adventure in seeing what happens. I like to work intuitively, not knowing quite where I’m headed. If I capture a mood or some kind of a sensation, I’m happy. I paint abstractions, pictures that are somewhat figurative, and, also enjoy painting portraits. I have studied at the Art Students League in NY and The National Academy of Design with Robert Philippe and Nat Kaz in NYC; I’ve done commercial work in fashion illustration and mono prints. Academic studies were taken at New York University and SUNY with a degree in studio arts. Along with painting I’m also having a great time hand-building porcelain dishes, cups and various other artifacts while taking classes at IS183.
