This month NUarts hosts two special events – a special exhibit of young emerging outsider artist, Aidan Spaniol, and a violin performance by the Vivace String Ensemble!

The ensemble, under the direction of Bing Lu, includes: Joan Devoe, Bridget Halpin, Megan Timler, Alba Passerini and our very own Carolina Perrone in Studio 19!

War Heroes” Aidan Spaniol

Aidan Spaniol is a fifteen year old self taught comics and graphic artist from Pittsfield, MA. This is his first exhibition. His work may be interpreted as Outsider Art, art that is outside the mainstream and created purely as the raw, personal expression of the artist.

The exhibition, “War Heroes” features a vast collection of hundreds of original comic drawings on paper, created over a several year period beginning in the artist’s childhood. Each story involves a group of characters fighting a common enemy to protect what they love.

The drawings are inspired by franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, D.C., Dragon Ball, Black Clover and One Piece. Additionally the artist has chosen to display a few original Lego sculptures, which were created as blueprints for the “War Heroes” comics.

This year, the artist began adding color and expanding the size of his graphic characters. He is exploring acrylic painting to convey scenes or worlds where his stories take place. In the paintings, he uses thick brush strokes, palette knife and a palette of dark and vivid colors akin to Van Gogh. Some of his paintings are currently on display in a group show entitled ‘Elemental’ at Commonfolk Gallery in North Adams.

For more information about the artist or to purchase works please contact curator, Marney Schorr at marn73@hotmail.com.

This ensemble includes: Joan Devoe, Bridget Halpin, Carolina Perrone, Megan Timler , and Alba Passerini.  The ensemble is under the direction of Bing Liu.
